Dream Cruise: Other Important Tips

We just wished that the internet was not so flooded with influensers’ posts of which none of them gave any practical tips or reviews.

And so I am writing this page.

Arrive Early!

Although our check-in time was 3.30pm, we arrived at 2.45pm because we wanted to be among the first in our allocated time slot to check-in.

Bullsh*t to allocated check-in timing

When we checked in, no one actually check what time slot we were allocated to check-in and board!! 😨 So if you arrive early just charge to the check-in area.

Every Tom, Dick, and Harry were already queuing to check-in. I wished we had arrived at 11am to try our luck at checking-in.

It took me about 45 minutes of queuing to get my family checked in. So thank me later in the comment. Your family can be seated elsewhere while you queue.

Minor Arrival details

After you got off your taxi or Grab, you can hand over your luggages to the concierge. They will ask for your deck and cabin number and they will place luggage tags on your luggage. You will not see them until you are onboard.

From here onwards it will be a good idea to memorise your deck and cabin number. Because no matter where you go or do they will always ask you for your cabin number.

From here you can proceed to security checks. Or if you forget to withdraw money there are a row of ATMs near the toilets. There will be no ATM onboard the ship. You may not want to withdraw money from overseas ATMs so it will be a good idea to ensure you have sufficient cash on you.

After you have passed the security screenings, proceed directly to the left side of the waiting area. There is where you will need to check-in and get your RFID room card.

After boarding

After you have gotten onboard and settle in, the first thing you should do is to proceed immediately to Deck 6 Reception to ask for allocation tickets to go onshore (no shore excursion counter).

If you want to go onshore on your own accord you will need to acquire allocation tickets. The earlier the better. If you are late you may be given a afternoon allocation to go onshore which in my opinion has not enough time to do anything.

After getting your shore tickets, if you have pre-purchase your unlimited drinks package you can proceed to your allocated bar to get a sticker to be sticked onto your room card.

Facilities Review

Main Pool – Deck 16 Aft ★★★☆☆

Well, I guess the centrefold of the Genting Dream has been the main pool which paints you this AWESOME feeling.

Well, I am sorry to tell you that it is all hype.

The pool is small and CROWDED! Don’t expect to swim 1 lap without hitting someone. The water is very cold before noon. But the shallow area beside the pool is great to just chill out.

Kids Water Park – Deck 16 Aft ★★★★★

This has got to be the most fun place we went together. The children loved it. I loved it. My wife loved it! The children were doing, like 50 runs ,at the slides!

Sun Deck Bar – Deck 17 Aft ★★★☆☆

This bar is just above the main pool. This bar was quite busy throughout and they closed early!!!

Waterslide Park – Deck 18 ★★★★★

This is really fun. And really FAST! However, there is a minimum 1.4m height requirement. My 6 years old son was utterly disappointed.

Ropes Course & Zipline – Deck 18 Aft ★★★★★

This is both scary and fun. Prepare to queue. Same height requirement. In addition, all children must be accompanied by adult! That means you need to complete teh course as well!

Rock Climbing – Deck 17 Aft ★★☆☆☆

Just a wall and no instructors. They have a guy there serve as a safety officer that’s all. Same height requirements.

Mini Golf – Deck 17 Aft ★★☆☆☆

We couldn’t find the golf balls on the first night. And this place was hot with very little wind. The children only played for less than 5 minutes.

Bar 360 – Deck 6 Midship ★★☆☆☆

Nothing much here really. Just a circular bar with singing and performances. Only the Deck 6 serves drinks. And the bar tenders are not of particularly smiling faced.

Johnnie Walker House – Deck 8 Midship ★☆☆☆☆

Never seen anyone there and seems like it was not manned at all throughout our trip. I wouldn’t pay for it anyway given how expensive they charge for liquor.

Zodiac Theatre – Deck 6 Forward ★★★☆☆

We only had the chance to watch performances here twice. The sound systems were fabulous, the lightings, and comfy seats, etc. Try to get your ticket early. This was not high in our priority list though.

Hotpot Restaurant – Deck 8 Aft (Not Open)

Karaoke – Deck 6 Forward ★☆☆☆☆

We were hoping to get a singing session going but when we turned up at the Karaoke, we were told that there was a minimum spending of $150! Booo!

The Dream Boutiques – Deck 7 Aft ★☆☆☆☆

Overpriced. Period.

Watch out for flash sales though. Some items can be cheap to buy during these flash sales. But who will be hanging around the whole day on a cruise ship waiting for flash sales?

Little Dreamers Club – Deck 16 Midship ★★★★★

Our two children were there every single day!

It is basically a childcare center. However, you are only entitled to a two hour childcare session per day. You will need to pay after that.

It is great if you want to try your luck on the jackpot machine, or go for a quickie 😚

They have PS4, X-box, movies, and other activities. They children just can’t have enough, even on the last day!

Friendly staffs here.

Arcade – Deck 16 Midship★☆☆☆☆

Too expensive and games were not new.

Zouk Beach Club – Deck 17 Aft ★☆☆☆☆

I was hoping there would be foam parties, exciting parties during sunsets, but there’s just no people here. No 150 decibels trance music.

Bowling – Deck 17 Aft ★★★★★

We were there every night! The children had a blast and it is probably one of the cheapest activities onboard.

The fees are charge based on number of game. Enquire about buy 2 get 1 free games. You can also order drinks from Zouk next door and relax and have plenty of laughters. Take your time to play and you can easily spend hours here.
